Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Day Two in St. Petersburg

We started the day with a walk to the huge market near in our area. This is a shot of the apartment block where we were staying.

We took the metro into the centre of the town, and the touristing began! The city has many canals, and is right on the river, so Julia had organized a boat tour for all of us.

It was great to be on the water in the heat were having. I took a TON of photos on this three hour boat cruise, and I won't bore you with all of them. Just a few :)

There might have been beer.

We cruised around the canals, then made it out onto the river and eventually all the way up to the gulf of Finland before turning around.

Bathing beauties.

It was a great way to get an idea of what was in store for the rest of our week, and also an easy way to see a lot without having to walk. St. Petersburg is a huge city, with lots of open spaces that reminded us of Canada. The only disadvantage was that we spent a huge part of our day walking from one spot to another, which might have been manageable had it not been ridiculously hot.

We ended the day at a little outdoor cafe near the apartment, where we had beer and our first taste of shashlik, Russian barbequed meats. Delicious!
